Dr. Johan Blanckaert is the founder of the Oculus private EYE clinic.
The Oculus clinic has been providing a variety of ophthalmology surgeries and treatments to patients for over 50 years. Their recently refurbished medical center is found in beautiful Ypres, Belgium. As well as providing traditional optical services such as contact lens fittings, the clinic performs laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, and eyelid surgery.
Oculus's staff is comprised of three highly skilled ophthalmologists and their medical support team. All three have medical and ophthalmology degrees. As members of the American and European boards of ophthalmologists, they have considerable experience and vast knowledge. As well as working for Oculus, Dr. Johan Blanckaert is the president of the Belgian Professional Association of Ophthalmologists and a regular speaker at international conferences.
For cataract surgeries, Oculus uses the femtosecond laser, the most modern technology available for cataract removal. It allows for needle-free, blade-free surgery and increased levels of accuracy, and is considered the biggest breakthrough in cataract surgery in the last 25 years. It increases the safety of the treatment and ensures a faster and more efficient healing time.
Entropion causes the eyelid to fold inward and can cause irritation to the patient. The clinic offers surgery to correct this using advanced technology. Blepharoplasty, the removal of excess skin from around the eye, is performed at the clinic under general anesthetic. It removes fat cells and tightens the skin, with many patients citing a more youthful appearance afterwards.

Professor Alexandre Mottrie MD PhD graduated in 1988 from the School of Medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He completed his residency in 1994 at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany where he was a Staff Member till 1996. Afterwards, he served as a Fellow in Washington University St.-Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. for six months to improve his laparoscopic skills. His major urological interests are urological oncology and minimal invasive surgery. He is a pioneer in robotic surgery and started this type of surgery in 2001. He developed different types of robotic surgery. At his department, he developed laparoscopic and robotic surgery to become training center in this field. He trained numerous colleagues in the field of robotic surgery. With over 3500 robotic procedures, he has one of the largest experiences in the robotic field.
In 2010, Dr. Mottrie founded the O.L.V. Vattikuti Robotic Surgery Institute (ORSI), a multidisciplinary school of robotic surgery.
Dr. Mottrie is scientifically very involved. He has authored multiple scientific papers and organised several international Congresses and Masterclasses in these fields. He has been actively involved in several congresses to perform live-surgery, give courses and/or present state-of-the-art lectures.
